When I first got word that Dior was reformulating their Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil, I was honestly confused. This product is loved by everyone, including editors, makeup artists, content creators, and celebs alike. It has a cult-like following on social and has inspired dozens of dupes. Even you guys are loyal fans: Lip Glow Oil has won numerous Cosmo Readers’ Choice Beauty Awards with readers saying things like, “The Dior Lip Glow Oil is my absolute favorite. I own every color” and “It’s hands down the best lip oil I’ve ever tried. It has the perfect glossy look and color tint. It’s not too sticky.”
So, given all this praise, why mess with a good thing? I flew to L.A. to meet with Peter Philips, creative and image director for Christian Dior makeup, to ask this very question and discover the new and improved Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil for myself. Keep scrolling for all the details—plus my review.
About the new Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil:
If you’re a fan of the OG lip oil, you’ll be happy to know the formula feels pretty much the same on lips. “One of the biggest challenges with reformulating was that we didn’t want to change the sensation that fans of the formula are used to. There’s nothing more frustrating than when your favorite product changes or gets discontinued,” says Philips. “But we wanted to expand the range be able to include more pigments and shimmer. It took three years, but our labs in Paris were able to find a way to create 16 shades and 2 new finishes—sparkle and glaze, in addition to the original juicy—without compromising on the feel or texture,” he explains.
Given our collective obsession with all things plump and shiny when it comes to lips, this expansion makes sense. “I don’t see glossy lips going away anytime soon,” says Philips. In fact, he’s betting on the sparkly finish and unexpected shades like Mint to be the standouts. “Frosted lips are back, and the next iteration of the look is less cold and more cute. It’s much more modern and wearable than it was in the ’90s,” he says. “I like layering the sparkle oil over a lined or contoured lip and then keeping the rest of the face dewy with a hint of shimmer on the eyes to balance it out. Against matte skin, it looks too harsh.”
To celebrate the new launch, Dior created a sweet-shop-themed pop-up in West Hollywood, filled with candies, cakes, and, of course, tons of Lip Glow Oils. The theme of the party perfectly mirrors the vibe of this new launch, and one of makeup’s biggest trends right now. In the same way that gourmand notes are dominating the fragrance world, confectionery vibes are having their moment in makeup and inspiring products with candy-like colors and edible textures. “People are craving comfort and nostalgia, and sweets give those feelings. Every time you swipe on our Lip Glow Oil, it should feel like a sugar rush,” says Philips.
The key differences:
- 3 different finishes and 16 shades: There’s Juicy (7 sheer tints most similar to the OG, Glaze (4 opaque and ultra-glossy shades), and Sparkly (5 shimmer formulas with light-reflective pigments).
- Added nourishing benefits: Expect up to 24 hours of hydration and 8 hours of smoothing.
- Upgraded packaging: While the new lip oil is the same shape and size and has the same iconic oversized applicator as the previous version, the Dior logo is now more prominently displayed on the bottle. See below:
My review of the new Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil:
For me, the biggest difference with the new Lip Glow Oil is how well it moisturizes. With the previous version, the formula felt more like a moisturizing lip gloss, but now it wears like a true lip oil. Like, you want to reapply it because the formula feels so good and the applicator is so plush and lovely, but you really don’t have to because the hydrating effect is incredibly long-lasting.
I’m personally not a shimmer lip person, so I won’t be wearing the Sparkle finishes, but I really like the new Glaze versions. They have just enough pigment to create some impact, but they’re not so pigmented that you need to apply them with a mirror. It’s a great alternative to lipstick if you want glossy, low-maintenance color. I have shade 081 Latte—a gorgeous warm brown—swatched on my hand below.
Despite two new finishes, I’m still a die-hard fan of the classic 001 Pink in the juicy finish. It’s so versatile. I keep it in my bag and swipe on whenever my lips need a little something, or you can make it part of a lip look and layer it with a pencil or stain. I’m wearing it below with one of Versed’s new nude lip pencils.
Overall, Dior managed to make an iconic product even better, which is no easy feat. The packaging is super chic, the formula is even more moisturizing, and the expanded shade range means there’s something for everyone.
